Chicago – Modern Cooperative, an award-winning, vintage home furnishings, decor and gift boutique, is announcing that it will reduce hours at its Pilsen location in April and eventually be closing its doors at the end of August, and focus on its store in Hyde Park.
“It’s been an amazing 5 years in Pilsen, and we hate to say goodbye to the neighborhood, all the friends and supporters we’ve made over the years” says co-owner Tiffany Page. “Unfortunately, this location is no longer financially sustainable for us due to multiple rent increases combined with a decrease in store traffic and sales”.
The closing of the Pilsen location will allow the owners to focus on their newer store on the corner of 53rd and Harper in the expanding Hyde Park downtown shopping district. “The ModCo Hyde Park store was busy the first day we opened, and continues to thrive with the assistance of the University of Chicago and the warm and welcoming people of Hyde Park. This decision to streamline will allow us to invest more of our time and energy here, as well as focus on our online presence” says co-owner Mike Biersma.
The Pilsen location will have reduced hours as they start to wind down, conduct a series of closeout sales over the summer, and eventually transfer remaining inventory to Hyde Park. The week of April 17th and afterwards, they’ll be open Friday and Saturdays, and closed Sundays through Thursdays.
“It’s very hard to say goodbye to the neighborhood where it all started. We sincerely thank Pilsen, Chicago and the more than 100 local artists and designers we work with for being part of our story. We hope to see you down in Hyde Park to visit our store along with the neighborhood we’ve grown to love so much.” said Tiffany.
